35-8. With the Portager boys sitting at 18-4 and the Portager girls sitting at 17-4 in the standings, it has been a highly successful basketball season here in Onekama. (The girls have one regular season game left to play!) The fall athletic season saw generational athletic success for our student-athletes in football and in volleyball, and that trend has carried forward into basketball. Both Onekama basketball teams finished second in their conference this regular season, and both teams will play in districts within the next seven days.

First up will be our boys, who will play district hosts Brethren themselves in a postseason rivalry game tonight at 5:30 PM. Brethren went 7-16 on the season, with two losses to Onekama: the Portagers won 61-45 at Brethren on January 8, and 55-33 at home against the Bobcats on February 4. If the Portagers win, they will face the winner of Bear Lake vs. Marion (they play at 7 PM). Bear Lake is 15-8 on the season, and the Portagers won 51-47 in their gym on January 15. Marion is 16-6 and has not played Onekama this season; they previously lost to Bear Lake, 61-50, in Bear Lake on December 6.

The girls have one more regular season game to play, and it's Senior Night! They will host Brethren at 5:30 PM this Thursday, February 27. Onekama will host girls districts beginning next week, with games to be determined.

Good luck to all of our Portager athletes, and congratulations on two excellent seasons!
