Counselor: Mrs. Kim Sinke | M.A., LPC

Hello Portagers! I am so happy to be the school counselor at Onekama Consolidated Schools. Please let me take this opportunity to introduce myself and the services and support offered to students and their families through the school counseling office.

My name is Kim Sinke and this is my 18th year in education. This is my 12th year as a school counselor, and I also spent four years working as a therapist in private practice prior to beginning at Onekama Schools. I have a Masters in Counseling from Western Michigan University and am a licensed professional counselor. Prior to moving into the role of school counselor, I was a high school English teacher for six years. My Bachelor’s Degree was earned from Grand Valley State University where I also was a collegiate runner.

With these experiences, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work in education and also understand adolescence and teenagers very well.  As the school counselor, I support students in their academics, career, and personal/social needs. I believe that providing support in all areas helps students become productive and resilient. My primary goal is for all students to develop a personalized plan for their futures beyond high school all while keeping in mind it’s a journey to get there. It is also my chief role to support, encourage, guide and come alongside them and their families throughout these years.

Being a consistent, supportive part of students’ lives through their highest highs and their lowest lows is the most rewarding part of being a school counselor. I am humbled that I can share in their lives at such a developmentally important time.

Beyond the school counseling role, I am the assistant varsity cross country coach and varsity women’s track and field coach. I also serve as Student Council Advisor and a School Improvement team member. I'm married and have three children and enjoy traveling, lake living, and reading.

Mrs. Kim Sinke, M.A., LPC
