Senior Travis Lapp poses with Mr. Nick Bradford in his classroom.

Interview with Mr. Nick Bradford, 5th Grade Teacher
Conducted by Travis Lapp (Class of 2025)

Today, we continue our spotlight series produced in OCS's Journalism & Yearbook course. We are spotlighting Mr. Nick Bradford, who recently became a father for the first time this year when his son William was born on April 4! Today's interview, however, will focus on Mr. Bradford's academic career.

TL: Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Onekama.

TL: What sports did you play in high school, and what was your favorite?

In high school I did cross country, basketball, and track. My favorites were basketball and track.

TL: Do you have any siblings?

Yes; I am the youngest of eight.

TL: Where did you go to college and why?

I attended Grand Valley State University. I really liked the campus and they have a great education program.

TL: What made you want to be a teacher?

I enjoy helping students learn new concepts. I like being able to coach students, as well, and help them meet their athletic goals.

TL: What was it like making the transition from being a student in college to teaching kids?

It was a smooth transition. I had a variety of teaching placements with great lead teachers when I attended GVSU that really helped prepare me for that transition.

TL: What advice would you give to the students of Onekama?

Your school years are a time for exploration and growth. Take advantage of the opportunities you have and don’t be afraid to reach out for help or advice along the way.

Thank you, Mr. Bradford, for allowing us to feature you in our spotlight series!
