Games since September 7…

The varsity volleyball team has caught fire as of late, rolling off twelve consecutive wins since beginning the season 8-5-1 and bringing the team to a 20-5-1 record! Team athletes have expressed excitement about the remainder of the season and potential district/regional matchups to come in class, but for now, the team has eight matchups to come in the regular season between now and October 29.

The Portagers travel to Leland today, Thursday, October 3, for an in-conference matchup. Action kicks off at 5:30 for junior varsity, with varsity to follow.

Onekama Cross-Country (by Aerika Roberts)

On Wednesday, September 18, the cross country team competed in the WMD race in Mesick. Mason Sinke finished strong in third place with a time of 17:21.70. On the girls’ side, Callie Sinke clinched first place with a time of 21:08.7, while Addy Zeller secured second with a time of 21:49.9. Natalie Brown followed closely, finishing fourth at 24:08.9.

On Saturday, September 21, the team traveled to Cadillac for the Veterans Serving Veterans Invitational. Mason Sinke once again led the boys' team, finishing first overall in the Division 3 and 4 race with a time of 16:24.84.  Addy Zeller led the girls' team, finishing eighth with a time of 20:33.02.

The cross country teams left the West Michigan D-League Jamboree No. 3 with 2 team wins, as the varsity girls and middle school team both went home winners. Callie Sinke finished 1st in the varsity girls race, and Addy Zeller finished 2nd. In the varsity boys race, Mason Sinke finished 2nd from the Portagers. In the middle school boys race, Logan Berryhill (4th) and Connor Swisher (10th) represented Onekama in the top finishers. In the middle school girls race, Autumn Berryhill (4th) finished as a top runner.
