OCS Students Achieve Success at MITES Competition

 

The Michigan Industrial Technology Education Society Region #13 Fair was held at Mason County Central School on May 7, 8, and 9. It was followed by the statewide MITES Convention on May 14 and 15 at Saginaw Valley State University. Onekama Middle School students received several awards during these competitions.

 

Awards are given each year to students that demonstrate skill, work ethic, and craftsmanship in the field of Industrial Technology. First through fourth place region winners qualified for the state competition. There are 20 regions and the potential to competing against 80 students in any one given division, category, and grade level.

 

Students faced some tough competition. Any Michigan or northern Indiana student in grades K through 12 is eligible. There is no distinction between the schools sizes; Class A through D schools compete against each other. The woods area (WO) has 17 categories. Students that are then placed into grade level of similar abilities.
