Onekama Students Take a Trip to the Theater

On the morning of Wednesday December 2, the Vogue Theatre in downtown Manistee opened to a special audience: the eighth grade class of Onekama School.

Students recently completed reading and conducting a close study of the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry in their English class. Following their in-class study, the students were able to view the film version of The Giver.

After an engaging morning at the Vogue Theatre, the students returned to the classroom to discuss the similarities and differences between the film and the novel. They analyzed the choices made by the author and the ways screenwriters adapted the novel to make it more accessible to a theater audience.

All students were in agreement that a trip to the Vogue was a “novel” way to spend a Wednesday morning in English class – and they gave “two thumbs up” to the film, and especially to the great staff at the Vogue that made the experience possible.
