A Kindergarten Surprise

By Sara

This year in Mr.K’s class the students hatched chicks. Alecia is a student in Mr. K’s class. Alecia said that the person who brought in the eggs was Matthew’s mom. The first thing she thought was that some of the eggs will not hatch. The colors of the eggs were tannish and white. The first thing to do with the eggs was to put X’s and O’s on them. Alecia said you have to put X’s and O’s on them so if one side was hot you would have to flip it to the other side. Something you had to do every day with the eggs was to flip the eggs. Alecia said that you flip them 2 times a day. Alecia said that an incubator is something that keeps the eggs warm. The baby chicks grew in the eggs by eating yolk.

Crack! Peep! Peep! It takes 21 days for the chicks to hatch. Alecia said that she felt really excited. There are coins in the chick food and water so they can find the food and water. Baby chicks eat chicken food. Alecia said that she liked when the chicks got big and fluffy. Alecia was really fun to work with!

Baby Chicks

By Conner

The students in kindergarten have hatched chicks.  Luke is a student

in Mrs. Lyman’s class.

Luke said that a man and a woman gave his class the eggs.  When Luke first saw the eggs, he wanted them to hatch right away.  The eggs were yellow and white.  Luke helped put X’s and O’s on the eggs, and put them in the incubator.  He wasn’t sure why the X’s and O’s were put on the eggs.  Luke said that the eggs had to be turned once everyday.  The eggs were kept in the incubator to keep them warm.  Luke said that the chicks grew in the eggs by eating the yoke.

According to Luke, it took 21 days for the eggs to finally hatch.  He was really excited to see the baby chicks!  Luke said that there were coins in the chicks’ water and food so that they could see better.  The chicks ate corn and chick food.

Luke liked hatching eggs in kindergarten.  He liked playing with them the best.   It was a great experience for Luke and his class to be able to hatch chicks.
