Science 4: Heat Transfer Activities

This week we learned about conduction, convection and radiation. We learned that conduction is a transfer of energy between objects, convection is a movement from warmer to colder and radiation is a transfer of energy through waves. It was a long and fun experiment.  We got to make popcorn in the microwave and it was really good and then we got to do something called the dancing quarter and all you needed was  to get an empty bottle and dip the quarter in vegetable oil and put the quarter on top of the bottle and then put the bottle in hot water and then the quarter would move! and last we got to melt ice using only our body heat it was really cold but also really fun we put the ice in a plastic bag and tried to melt it. Caden won dust it was still fun. It was a lot of fun and I really really liked it and I hope I can do it again sometime. ~Jayla

We did activity with conduction. You try to melt a ice cube the fastest. The heat from your body would make it melt. The next one we did was the dancing coin. Which was convection. We put oil on the coin so it would make a seal. Put a coin on a bottle in hot water. It transferred heat into the bottle because the the hot water went up. Radiation was where the popcorn popped because it is waves that you can't  see that transfer energy  to the popcorn.  ~Caden

We did a activity with conduction, conduction and radiation. The convection - ice melting. The convection-dancing quarter. The radiation-microwave. How the ice
was melting was touting. The dancing quarters was the heat rising to the top . Radiation is a wave that from
the sun.

We were doing a fun project and it was about conduction, convection and radiation. The conduction project was melting ice from are skin heat waves.  The convection project was the dancing quarter and it made the quarter move from the heat bouncing. The radiation project was making popcorn with the microwave from the radiation waves and we got to eat it. It was really fun. ~Jarred

We did an activity about conduction, convection, and radiation. we had 3 experience on these words one was called  the dancing quarter and the other  was called ice melt and the last one was called the microwave. my favorite was the ice melt on the ice melt we have to use are body heat and the dancing quarter you need a bowl of hot water and a bottle and oil and a quarte the oil makes the quarter cause of the air and the microwave was watching how the heat change the popcorn. ~Janet

My class did an activity about heat transformations. Did know that conduction is transfer of energy between objects like a spoon in a hot pot of water. Convection is movement from warmer to cooler. Radiation is the transfer of energy by waves. If you are melting ice that is conduction. If you put a quarter on in a hot pot it will move up and down that is convection. If you heat something up in the microwave that is radiation. ~Heather

My class did a activity. It was about Heat Transformations. We learned about  Conduction, Convection and Radiation. We did a experiment on Conduction we melted ice in a plastic zip lock bag and we tried to melt it by in our hands, shoes, armpits and are forehead. We did an experiment on Convection and we did the dancing quarter which was a glass bottle and some baking oil and put it on the quarter and we put hot water under the glass bottle. We did a experiment on Radiation my teacher put some popcorn in the microwave and at the end we got to eat the popcorn. The experiment was really fun. ~Rebecca

My class did a activity with conduction convection and radiation. The conduction activity was with ice in a bag. We tried to melt the ice with our hands or other things. We made conduction with our hands because our hands are warm we made conduction. The next activity was with convection we did the dancing quarter. Three kids in our class took a quarter and put oil on the quarter. Then they put it on a bottle. Next we put the bottle in warm water the quarter was jumping up and down like dancing. The last activity was  with a microwave we made popcorn and ate it. The activities were really fun. ~Waaba

Conduction is a transfer of energy between objects. We did an experiment with conduction we used our body's to melt the ice. Convection is  movement from warmer things to cooler things. with the convection we put cooking oil on the quarter and a bottle we put the bottle in hot water and it moved the quarter. Radiation we used a microwave to heat up the popcorn. ~Max

The activity we did was about conduction convection and radiation.  conduction was ice melting with our hands. Convection was dancing quarter because the hot heat was going up. Radiation was microwave energy waves that we can not see and the hot energy made the popcorn pop. ~Jacob

We did a activity with conduction, convection and radiation. The first one that we did was the conduction we use ice cubes to see how fast it malts. Then we did the convection and we used a quarter we put it on top of a bottle and put the bottle in hot water and the heat  went up and the cold air  went down and the heat made the quarter move. We did radiation we used a microwave to see if we could see the waves of the microwave.  ~Salvador

Yesterday we did three activities about conduction, convection and radiation.  For conduction we melted ice by using touch and our body heat.  Then we did convection we did the dancing quarter.  We used olive oil and put it on the quarter.  Then put a bottle in some warm water and the heat started to move up and it moved the quarter a little bit.  For radiation we cooked popcorn and what cooked the popcorn was the heat.   ~Hunter

My class did an experiment. We put ice cubes in a plastic baggie and tried to melt the ice with only our bodies. That was conduction that means it transfers energy between objects. Then we did the dancing quarter that was about putting oil on one side of a quarter then putting the quarter on a glass jar then putting the jar in a hot bowl of water the quarter bounds that was convection . Convection means movement warmer to colder. Last we put some popcorn in the microwave for radiation we watched the popcorn pop. Radiation is a transfer of energy by waves. ~Veronica
